With reference to claims 55 and 56 the houses stand partly on Government ground originally laid out as Shaukiwan Lot No. 2 and partly on Shawkiwan Lot W:2, and partly belonging to the claimants. In this case the Board recommends that the boundaries of Shaukiwan Lot W.9 be re-adjusted so as to include that portion of Shaukiwan Lot W.11.1 upon which the buildings stand, upon the same terms as to premium and Crown Rent as Shaukiwan Lot W.9.
And with reference to claim W:142 where the houses overlap the Southern boundary of Shaukiwan Lot N.3 the Board recommends that that boundary be also re-adjusted so as to include the buildings; the claimants, being the Crown Lessees of the Lots, paying a premium and Crown Rent proportionate to the premium and Crown Rent paid for the leased lots.
In the cases of claims 6, 8, and 9 it appears that Squatters Licenses were granted to the Tenants of the Crown Lessees of Shaukiwan Lots No. 57, 58, and 147. In claim 6, the ground for which the Licences were granted being situate on the foreshore in front of those Lots, but separated from them by the Main Street, and the ground in claims 8 and 9 being immediately adjacent to and used with Lot No. 147. The claims of the Tenants were in each of these cases disputed by the Crown Lessees, who also claimed on their own behalf. The tenants have now come to an arrangement with their Landlords.
